We work with brands and their design teams to develop architectural environments that engage with collections, and the spatial possibilities of each location. Our work draws on references from art, architecture and fashion, paying close attention to spatial sequence, form, material and fabrication.
We work closely with clients, contractors and specialist fabricators at different stages, from concept and spatial organisation to detailed design and delivery. For international brands, we provide architectural support to deliver projects in London and other UK locations.
Burlington Arcade Flagship Store
Burlington Arcade was built in 1819 by the Regency architect Samuel Ware. The 180m long gallery connects Piccadilly with Burlington Gardens and Cork Street, and is lined with boutique stores trading in perfume, wine, clothing and jewellery. Its architecture is composed of masonry arches, ornamental plasterwork, and joinery bays with delicate curved glass windows framing the shop displays.
Will Pirkis Architects were appointed by a long-term tenant to adapt five small units and create an expansive new interior, with repairs to the Grade II listed building. The interior is restructured as an enfilade of rooms along the Arcade, maintaining the sense of separate units, while a piano nobile overlooking the gallery contains quieter spaces for display and fitting. Accreted ad hoc fit-outs were removed where they were detrimental to the architectural effect of the Arcade, with new staircases adopting compact, sculptural Regency forms.
Homer London Store
The London store of Frank Ocean’s Homer is located in the city's jewellery district of Hatton Garden. Will Pirkis Architects worked closely with Homer, New York designers ANY and contractors to develop and deliver the project from London.
The interior recalls packaging, with a profiled ceiling in gloss plaster and a vitrine for objects in slumped glass and aluminium. A bespoke etched glass lighting installation, concealed mirror doors and bespoke wall linings make an intense interior that focuses on the central vitrine.
